Between Cleveland and Akron, a 33,000-acre national park hides in plain sight. Cuyahoga Valley National Park — free to enter, no reservations needed — fills the gap between two of Ohio's largest cities with waterfalls, old-growth forest, a scenic railroad, and the kind of hiking that makes you forget you're in the Rust Belt. Brandywine Falls, a 65-foot cascade, is the most-visited spot in the park and just a short walk from the parking area.
Akron itself was once the rubber capital of the world — Goodyear, Firestone, and BFGoodrich all headquartered here. That industrial heritage lives on in the revitalized downtown, while 30 miles south in Canton, the Pro Football Hall of Fame draws football fans from across the country.
With 5 dump stations in the area and campgrounds within 15 minutes of both the city and the national park, Akron is a surprisingly strong RV stop in northeast Ohio.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Cuyahoga Valley is one of the most accessible national parks in the system — free admission, no entrance gate, and threading between two major cities. What you get:
- Brandywine Falls — A 65-foot waterfall, the park's signature sight. Short boardwalk trail from the parking lot. Stunning after rain.
- Blue Hen Falls — Smaller but more secluded. A forest trail hike.
- Towpath Trail — A 20+ mile paved trail following the historic Ohio & Erie Canal. Flat and accessible for biking and walking.
- Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad — A heritage railway running through the valley. Ride one way and bike or hike the other.
- Hiking — 125+ miles of trails through forest, ravines, and along the Cuyahoga River.
Fall foliage peaks mid-October and the park becomes one of the most beautiful places in Ohio. Book campground reservations ahead if you're visiting during peak colour.
Pro Football Hall of Fame (Canton, 30 miles south)
If professional football matters to you — or to anyone in your RV — the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton is a 30-minute drive south of Akron. Interactive exhibits, enshrined player busts, and the history of the NFL from its founding to today. Budget 3-4 hours. The annual enshrinement weekend in August draws huge crowds and fills every campground in the region.
In Town
- Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens — The largest historic home in Ohio. A Tudor Revival manor on 70 acres of manicured gardens. Built by the Seiberling family (co-founders of Goodyear). The gardens alone justify the visit.
